Soaring With The Crystal Palace FC Eagles

Soaring With The Crystal Palace FC Eagles

We’re big Crystal Palace FC fans here at Big Yellow Self Storage. So, when the opportunity to advertise with the Eagles at their Selhurst Park pitch came up, we were absolutely delighted to get involved. The club has a clear place in football history as one of the most loved football clubs in the country. Originally, it was situated at the top of Sydenham Hill, which is where the current National Sports Centre stands. As many of our customers at local branches in Balham, Beckenham, Bromley, Croydon & Merton will attest to, Crystal Palace has devoted fans with several generations of family members making regular trips to their grounds. Way back in 1905, the club joined the Southern League Division Two when they played their first match against Southampton Reserves at Crystal Palace on 2nd September 1905. Today’s heroes such […]

Wine Is Like Men, Some Turn To Vinegar

…But The Best Improve With Age When on holiday, we all like to make the most of bargains we can get while away. Wine, one of life’s true pleasures, is one of our most favourite items to bring back. Quite right too! The cost of a bottle of wine in England has soared by 44p in the last 12 months. Tax hikes have led to the average price of a bottle of wine to leap up to £4.26. Tips and Tricks: Storing Sofas

Tips and Tricks: Storing Sofas

… It’s worth taking into consideration which type of material your sofa is made from before storing. Generally, it’s better to store vertically on a flat sided arm. Leather handles the pressure very well, as does micro-fibre. Silky high end fabrics are better to kept on their feet as they don’t have the structural integrity to withstand the additional pressure. For transportation itself, a professional mover knows how to use furniture pads to keep the pressure off the arms. If you are doing this yourself, you’ll need to stand the sofa on end with several double folded blankets to provide a soft surface for the arm. All in all, an average sofa should be fine when stored on its end in your self storage unit for a couple of months. Be sure that there are no wrinkles on the floor […]

Did You Know: Lego Storage

Did You Know: Lego Storage

…that Larry Page and Sergey Brin used Lego building blocks to construct portions of the outer case for Google’s first storage assembly? A collection of the classic childhood toys held twin cooling fans in place and provided a perch for twin Lego ‘people’ to watch over the device. The storage assembly required far more capacity than any conventional student project—or commercial product—could procure in 1996. To get the then-staggering 40 gigabytes of necessary capacity, Page and Brin had to tie together 10 separate 4-GB hard drives together, and they built the Lego housing to hold their Frankenstein storage system, which stayed in place till 1999. From small acorns grow big trees, so why not see how inventive you can get when left to build your own storage solutions?

Tips and Tricks: Keep Clean and Dry

…Make sure that all appliances are clean and dry before self storage. Try not to use heavy detergents as the residue from these may damage delicate woods or plastics. A light mixture of soap and water will do the trick. After drying fully, leave appliances slightly ajar to prevent mildew from forming.

Did You Know: USA self-storage

…that the US uses more self-storage per household than any other country in the world? The country now possesses some 1,875 billion square feet of personal storage, which is contained in nearly 40,000 facilities. What this translates into is an industry that now exceeds the revenues of Hollywood. One in 11 American households own self-storage space according to a recent survey, an increase of some 75 percent from 1995. Most operators of self-storage facilities report 90 percent occupancy, with average stints among its renters of 15 months.
