Did You Know Britain Has More Storage Space For Waste CO2?

Did You Know Britain Has More Storage Space For Waste CO2?

Did you know that the North Sea could provide Britain with a natural resource worth as much as £10 billion a year if the Government exploits it as a store for carbon dioxide (CO2), according to The Times? Britain has more storage space for waste CO2 than all of the other northern European countries combined, with the exception of Norway, according to research that suggests carbon capture and storage could be one of the boom industries of the next 20 years. At the British Science Festival in Guildford in September, it was announced that the existence of suitable rock formations beneath the British seas – mainly in the North Sea – means that Britain could make as much as £5 billion a year from selling licenses to store CO2 to countries such as Germany, Denmark and Poland. While technology for […]

Quiz Night Sponsored by Armadillo Dundee Raises £2,020

To support the Cash For Kids charity, a quiz night sponsored by Armadillo Self Storage Dundee raised over £2,000 for a great cause. Over 200 people and 40 teams went head-to-head in the annual competition at Fairmuir Social Club with Bowman’s Golden Girls being awarded the trophy for the winning team. The Cash For Kids charity has been established to support thousands of children across the region who suffer abuse or neglect, are disabled and have special needs or simply need a little extra care or guidance. Every single penny that they raise is changing lives for the better and provides a helping hand to youngsters when and where they need it most. Our own Derek Smith from Armadillo Self Storage Dundee presented a cheque for £2,020 to Tay FM’s Stewart Webster which has been awarded to Cash For Kids.

Self Storage Rooms As An Office

Self Storage Rooms As An Office

The one thing you’ll inevitably need if you’re planning to set up your own business from home is a lot of space. With the help of commercial self storage, you can make this process a lot easier by storing papers and documents securely offsite. It’s a great way to store documents safely, and also provides the opportunity to many to not only change the way they work – but also expand their businesses. Records are important and have to be maintained, but storing them requires a lot of space. Self storage allows you to keep your files organised in one location – that’s easy to sort through when needed. This isn’t only relevant to smaller businesses either. Is your business expanding or simply overstocked? You could use a facility for space for equipment, promotional material or to archive documents. What […]

Big Yellow Self Storage Birmingham Helping Haiti

Big Yellow Self Storage Birmingham Helping Haiti

The Big Yellow Self Storage team in Birmingham have been giving up their time and processing donations for the Haiti Appeal after the tragic earthquake in January. Among the items donated were clothes, food and blankets for the thousands that have been left injured and homeless. Head honcho Rose helped co-ordinate the appeal with the help of Central Removals who did local donation pick-ups from schools for free. A big thank you to the staff and children of South Leeds High School, who drove many miles to help. Big Yellow Self Storage would like to thank everyone involved who donated their time and effort into supporting this appeal.

Big Yellow Self Storage Edinburgh’s Newest Recruit

Big Yellow Self Storage Edinburgh’s Newest Recruit

We are proud to welcome the newest recruit to our Edinburgh branch, Vixen the hawk, who has become the head of our newly formed anti-seagull department. The position became available as we’re located on an airport flight path and we have to stop our feathered friends from nesting on our roof! We attract between 50-60 birds to our lovely building which can cause a safety hazard to aeroplanes in flight, as well as the well-being of the birds themselves. Vixen, who is a bird of prey, flies over our roof and scares the gulls away – he’s like our own burly bouncer! Our Edinburgh team have even been trying their hand at falconry, but we think we’ll leave it to the pros.

Did You Know Stones Can Be Used For Solar Energy Storage?

Did You Know Stones Can Be Used For Solar Energy Storage?

Did you know that there are many different types of energy – from the type that comes from plugs in the wall to power your electrical items, to the kind being stored in a battery? Solar energy comes from the sun and is not only absorbed by plants and crops to help them grow, but collected here on earth for heating, lighting and other human needs. A means of collecting the solar energy and a way to generate it are needed to make sure we can access the sun’s energy. This means that the energy can be converted into another form of energy such as electricity and heat. Storing the energy makes it last longer, as the sun does not shine for 24 hours a day – and in some cases not at all! Solar energy is very well suited […]

Seek, And You Shall Find

Seek, And You Shall Find

At this time of year, we’re all busy sorting through boxes of clothes and books, papers and knick-knacks, trying to work out where on earth they came from. Though much of it ends up at the charity shop or in the paper shredder, you’ll sometimes find a few gems among the mess. In a way, it’s the same for the world wide web – there’s a lot of rubbish, but a lot of fun too. It’s precisely this sentiment that’s inspired the launch of the blogs below, all of which celebrate that one man’s garbage is another man’s gold! FFFFOUND is a web service that not only allows the users to post and share their favorite images found on the web, but also dynamically recommends each user’s tastes and interests for an inspirational image-based bookmarking experience. Passive Aggressive Notes – […]

Tips & Tricks: Give Your Phone A Spruce!

Tips & Tricks: Give Your Phone A Spruce!

We all know what it’s like. You’ve had your phone for a while, it’s looking a bit tired – but more importantly, it’s acting it. There are a number of things you can do to fix this, and breathe new life into your handset before banishing it to the back of a drawer for good. Sluggish performance on most phones is almost always caused by a lack of memory, itself caused by having too many apps on your phone. To delete some apps, go to the main menu and find your applications folder. Doing this will show you a list of all the apps installed on your phone. Tap on an entry and your phone will show you how much memory the app takes up, as well as giving you the option to delete it. You can set single speed […]
