Big Yellow Self Storage supports the One Can Trust

The One Can Trust charity has been set up to facilitate community based projects, helping communities help themselves. Its first major project is the One Can Trust Foodbank, which provides a short-term free emergency food supply of non-perishable items such as soup, pasta, baked beans, cereals etc. to the thousands of families – including as many as12,000 children – who live in poverty in Buckinghamshire. Big Yellow is proud to be supporting this great cause by providing the Foodbank with free storage space, taking public donations and storing them before they are packaged into food parcels at the One Can Trust Foodbank. Big Yellow help create storage for Farleigh Hospice

Big Yellow’s Store Managers Rob Harley, Matt Trevillion, Gary Boast, Andy Polson and Mike FitzGerald have spent the day at Farleigh Hospice this week, helping the maintenance team prepare for some new and much needed storage space. Arriving in the morning the volunteers split into two teams to make the most out of the day, with one team painting fence posts while the other prepared the ground for a new shed base they were building in the afternoon. After a quick break they carried on the hard work by putting a frame in place for the shed and filling it with concrete, ready for further volunteers to build on in the next few weeks. Big Yellow Twickenham supports Charity Dallaglio & Flintoff Cycle Ride

Big Yellow in Twickenham have played a big part for the Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam supported by Virgin Media by providing a free storage room for the storage of bicycles, kit and equipment before, during and after the ride. Laurence Dallaglio and Freddie Flintoff had set the challenge to cycle from Olympia in Greece all the way to the Olympic Village, London in just 22 days starting on the 23rd April and riding a staggering 2,872km. The event was raising money for the “Dallaglio Foundation” which helps support Cancer Research UK funded ICGC project on Prostate Cancer genetics and the other charity is the “AF Foundation” which raises funds to build, develop and improve Child Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy units in the UK Warwick Sleigh store manager of the Big Yellow in Wandsworth was invited to take part on the final […]

Stockton Armadillo do their bit for Teesside hospice charity

Stockton Armadillo have helped out local hospice charity Butterwick this week by donating a 75sq ft room and a donation station nearby where Armadillo customers can donate clothes and bric-a-brac to be sold to help finance their work. Scott McDonald (pictured right) from Armadillo Stockton said: “We were delighted to help out such a worthwhile local charity and look forward to working with them in the future on local fundraising events” Brunswick hospice treat around 200 patients. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for those who have a life limiting illness and their families and to help them relate positively to every challenge they may encounter during their illness and to see death as part of life’s journey. Liverpool South Armadillo support Frontline Trust’s Food bank

Armadillo Liverpool South staff are doing their bit to help feed UK people who’ve experienced a crisis in their lives. The store has donated 275sq. feet of storage to the charity to help with donations and collections, and to go that bit further, staff have helped with collection days at local supermarkets such as ASDA Smithdown Road, donating their own time. Sue Martin, Armadillo’s Assistant Manager (pictured in the middle of the photo) was busy collecting last Friday with Kevin (pictured on the right) who came to Central Liverpool Foodbank in October 2011 after having problems with his benefits. He was so impressed with the welcome and acceptance of the team that he wanted to give something back. Big Yellow staff race around the Olympic Stadium for charity!

Four members of Big Yellow’s staff did their bit for the charity Get Kids Going last weekend by competing in a 4x100m relay against teams from round the country at the all new stadium in Stratford. The team consisting of Big Yellow staff Sharon McCarthy, Luke McLaughlin, Paul Holmes and Mike FitzGerald were hot on the heels of the other competitors finishing a very respectable 2nd out of 8 teams. The event, part of the Gold Challenge, sees the total amount raised so far by the team hit well over the £3,000 mark! Big Yellow Bramall Lane win a Sheffield Telegraph Environment Award

Big Yellow picked up the Business award for outstanding environmental and sustainable innovations and improvements at this year’s Sheffield Telegraph Environment Awards last night. In its fifth year, the event was truly inspiring with guest speakers including Paul Hudson, the BBC Look North weather reporter, discussing issues relating to climate change and changing the public’s opinion. Big Yellow was up against some tough competition including Meadow Hall Shopping centre for their outstanding recycling system. Big Yellow Fellows get their legs waxed for charity!

Having cycled more than 191 miles around London over two days to raise money for charity, the four man team made up of Big Yellow staff, decided to get their legs waxed one by one in celebration at raising so much money for the Get Kids Going! charity. The team, made up of leader, Mike FitzGerald, store manager at Big Yellow Romford, Luke McLaughlin from Birmingham Big Yellow, Richard Shubrook and Paul Holmes from Big Yellow Head office, decided that if the team raised over £1,500 Luke and Mike would get their legs waxed, at £2,000 Richard is up with Paul following behind at £3,000. Big Yellow Self Storage staff visit English Institute of Sport, Sheffield

Kirsty from Big Yellow Self Storage together with Trina and Kirstie from our Armadillo Stores watched UK medal hopefuls in action during a tour of the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield. The impressive lottery funded facility is big enough to cater for a wide variety of sports and features state of the art equipment. As well as being a tremendous asset for elite athletes, the Institute works on projects to bring sport into the community. There were several presentations from the organizers of Team 2012, which gave an insight into the funding operation. The goal is to raise £25 million and £14 million has already been raised. Big Yellow Supports Mayors Toy Appeal

For the 3rd year running, Big Yellow Tunbridge Wells is supporting The Mayors Toy appeal in the area. We are acting as a donation station for toys and offering free storage to the appeal in the run up to Christmas. The Toy Appeal is celebrating its 21st anniversary and each year they have been helping children from disadvantaged families celebrate Christmas. The local community can donate gifts, which will then be wrapped in our store and given to children as presents. Last year the Toy Appeal successfully gave Christmas gifts to 279 children living in the area of Tunbridge Wells, with many of the presents donated by local residents, shops and stores, as well as local churches, schools and other organisations.
