Big Yellow Edinburgh Sponsors Heriot Watt Motorsports Society

Big Yellow Edinburgh Sponsors Heriot Watt Motorsports Society

The Heriot Watt University Motorsports society is the sole Scottish team in the British Universities Karting championships and has been competing throughout the country. They have only been racing since October 2009 and are unable to gain affiliation to the University Sports Union. The team has raced to success on the track in their first year as sponsorship from the Edinburgh branch of Big Yellow Self Storage has enabled them to attend race meets and raise their profile among the 4,500 students at Heriot Watt University. The team has had success off the track as well. They picked up Best New Society and Best New President at the University Oscars in part for a finding sponsorship deal with Big Yellow. The racers came in to do an official photo shoot at Big Yellow Edinburgh with ‘The Big Yellow Stig’ making […]

Quiz Night Sponsored by Armadillo Dundee Raises £2,020

Quiz Night Sponsored by Armadillo Dundee Raises £2,020

To support the Cash For Kids charity, a quiz night sponsored by Armadillo Self Storage Dundee raised over £2,000 for a great cause. Over 200 people and 40 teams went head-to-head in the annual competition at Fairmuir Social Club with Bowman’s Golden Girls being awarded the trophy for the winning team. The Cash For Kids charity has been established to support thousands of children across the region who suffer abuse or neglect, are disabled and have special needs or simply need a little extra care or guidance. Every single penny that they raise is changing lives for the better and provides a helping hand to youngsters when and where they need it most. Our own Derek Smith from Armadillo Self Storage Dundee presented a cheque for £2,020 to Tay FM’s Stewart Webster which has been awarded to Cash For Kids.

Big Yellow Self Storage Birmingham Helping Haiti

Big Yellow Self Storage Birmingham Helping Haiti

The Big Yellow Self Storage team in Birmingham have been giving up their time and processing donations for the Haiti Appeal after the tragic earthquake in January. Among the items donated were clothes, food and blankets for the thousands that have been left injured and homeless. Head honcho Rose helped co-ordinate the appeal with the help of Central Removals who did local donation pick-ups from schools for free. A big thank you to the staff and children of South Leeds High School, who drove many miles to help. Big Yellow Self Storage would like to thank everyone involved who donated their time and effort into supporting this appeal.

Big Yellow Self Storage Edinburgh’s Newest Recruit

Big Yellow Self Storage Edinburgh’s Newest Recruit

We are proud to welcome the newest recruit to our Edinburgh branch, Vixen the hawk, who has become the head of our newly formed anti-seagull department. The position became available as we’re located on an airport flight path and we have to stop our feathered friends from nesting on our roof! We attract between 50-60 birds to our lovely building which can cause a safety hazard to aeroplanes in flight, as well as the well-being of the birds themselves. Vixen, who is a bird of prey, flies over our roof and scares the gulls away – he’s like our own burly bouncer! Our Edinburgh team have even been trying their hand at falconry, but we think we’ll leave it to the pros.

Armadillo Self Storage Sheffield Lends St. Luke’s Hospice A Hand

Armadillo Self Storage Sheffield Parkway was delighted to aid St. Luke’s Hospice with their storage needs recently. Every day, St. Luke’s offers excellent specialist care to its patients. Staffing at the hospice has become vitally important to the patients and their families as without the excellent individual care that they provide, St. Luke’s wouldn’t be so unique and valuable. We’ve donated storage space worth £2,000 to a very deserving cause which has been providing care to thousands of seriously ill people within their community since 1971. St. Luke’s we salute you! Visit Friends of St Luke’s for further information on volunteering, fundraising or making a donation to this amazing charity!

The Sunday Times Best 100 Companies: We’re Moving Up!

The Sunday Times Best 100 Companies: We’re Moving Up!

It was this time last year that we won a Sunday Times 100 Best Companies To Work For accolade. Guess what? We’ve just won again, but this year we placed even higher! We’re now sitting pretty at number 25, up 43 spots from 68. Even though the economic downturn has created a knock on effect on the self storage industry, our company culture of involving our staff at all levels and rewarding them has contributed to better results and continued growth. For those who don’t know, the Best Companies organisation was formed with the purpose of making the world a better workplace and has established its reputation through an authoritative and highly rigorous methodology. Each year its media partner, The Sunday Times, publishes the top 100 scoring companies. Their site inspections and workforce survey identifies workplace performance and best practice […]

Lawrence Dallaglio swoops into Twickenham to store with us

As you will have seen on TV, the BBC’s Sport Relief campaign is well underway, and we here at Big Yellow Self Storage have been getting involved too by giving England rugby legend Lawrence Dallaglio and his friends a home for their bikes before their awe-inspiring 2,888km cycle ride across Europe to raise £1m for Sport Relief and the Dallaglio Foundation. The ride will end with team Dallaglio arriving in Murrayfield in time to watch England and Scotland fight it out for the Calcutta Cup on 13 March.
