The Voice Of Arbourthorne Project

Recently our Sheffield Bramall Lane store had the opportunity to supply The Sheffield School of Architecture and Arbourthorne Community Primary School with cardboard boxes to use as construction material. The Sheffield School of Architecture has a unique formula whereby it sends its students out into the real world to work with real clients and briefs as part of their course. For this particular project the client was Arbourthorne Community Primary School, which has the aim of encouraging positive behaviour in education, as well as wider society in general. They would be working together to create a structure that represents the culture of positive behaviour. Many of the children from Arbourthorne Community Primary School act as mediators in their break-times to help take the load off their teachers. A workshop was arranged for the kids to help design a structure that […]

Did You Know That The First Billion Square Feet Of Storage Space Took 25 Years To Build?

With 58,000 self storage facilities globally more and more people are benefitting from the extra space in their homes. Ever wondered how other countries self storage compares to ours? We’ve taken a look at the USA, France and Spain to bring you the juicy facts to help put your mind at ease. The self storage market in the US is a huge industry with about 45,000 facilities compared to 1,200 that are situated in the UK. The first billion square feet of storage space took 25 years to build and the next billion only took 8 years thanks to a boom within the industry. The Big Yellow Armadillos Movember Team

The Big Yellow Armadillos Movember Team

Members of Armadillo and Big Yellow Self Storage are growing a Mo’ this month in aid of a very deserving cause. Each November men are challenged to grow some lip fuzz to raise money for The Prostate Cancer Charity. The rules are simple, start November 1st clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month to raise awareness for this important charity. The idea for Movember started in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 after being inspired by the work that women have done in the past for breast cancer. Since then the Movember moustache has grown year on year and become popular here in the UK. The money raised as a result of Movember is channeled by The Prostate Cancer Charity into a number of world class and innovative education, support, research and awareness initiatives. The Big Yellow Armadillos […]

Henschke Master Class With Simon Woods

Henschke Master Class With Simon Woods

Hi everyone! It’s Matt the wine manager at ‘The Wine Cellars’ located in Big Yellow Self Storage’s Fulham branch with an update to the wine blog from some of the events we’ve had recently. At the end of September I attended the high profile, fine wine tasting of Henschke wines at The Wine Cellars in Fulham, hosted by the West London Wine School. Renowned wine journalist Simon Woods presented the tasting of the iconic wines from Henschke, Australia. Henschke wines have gained international recognition as some of the finest wines produced in Australia and amongst the most sought after wines in the world. The tasting worked through the excellent single varietal and blended wines within the range, leading up to the famous Mount Edelstone Shiraz (£55-£60) and the classic Cyril Henschke Carbernet (£60-£70). Simon Woods is a well respected wine […]

How To Start Your Own Collection

How To Start Your Own Collection

People collect things for many different reasons. For some it is a hobby, others are continuing a family tradition and many do it to make money. If you would like to start your own collection, first decide what you want to collect and why. For example there would be no point in collecting restaurant napkins because you think it will make you millions. Aiming to get rich is a risky reason to begin a collection, there are no guarantees that you will be in profit and you could end up losing cash. To make money from a collection you have to acquire something which other people desire and will pay for. Art and antiques can be very prosperous but often need a high investment in the first place. Unless you consider yourself to be an expert in your chosen field, […]

Meet The Wine Maker – Jeremy Gordon

Meet The Wine Maker – Jeremy Gordon

On 22 September, myself and twenty others had the chance to meet Jeremy Gordon the wine maker for the Amelia Park label as he hosted the tasting session of premium west Australian wines for the West London Wine School at The Wine Cellars. We enjoyed the quality of the Amelia Park wines on offer and were guided through the tasting process by the wine making legend, Jeremy Gordon himself. Amelia Park Wines produce five quality wines from one of Western Australia’s most renowned winemaking regions, Margaret River. The tasting session allowed customers to enjoy all five bottles including the Amelia Park Cabernet Merlot, Margaret River, 2009 (£18.50). The award-winning La Violetta ‘La Ciornia’ Shiraz Viognier (£30) one of the best Western Australian wines tasted recently at the school was also on offer for guests to try. For those who don’t […]

Big Yellow Self Storage’s Big Thinker

Big Yellow Self Storage’s Big Thinker

On the closing day of the Big Thinker’s competition, I was on my laptop at home feeling frantic. I furiously messaged friends, family and anyone else who would take any notice, to convince them to ‘Like’ my Big Thinker’s entry before 4pm so I could win the Big Thinkers Internship. For those of you who don’t know what I am talking about – earlier this year the Big Yellow Self Storage Company launched a competition to win a month’s internship with their online communications team in London. I had to write something funny, catchy or downright silly, incorporating the words ‘Big’ and ‘Yellow’ and submit it on the Big Yellow Self Storage Facebook page. My challenge was to then get the most ‘Likes’ or retweets on my entry from friends and family. I was a Facebook fan before this competition, […]
