Kirsty from Big Yellow Self Storage together with Trina and Kirstie from our Armadillo Stores watched UK medal hopefuls in action during a tour of the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield. The impressive lottery funded facility is big enough to cater for a wide variety of sports and features state of the art equipment. As well as being a tremendous asset for elite athletes, the Institute works on projects to bring sport into the community. Big Yellow Supports Mayors Toy Appeal

Big Yellow Supports Mayors Toy Appeal

For the 3rd year running, Big Yellow Tunbridge Wells is supporting The Mayors Toy appeal in the area. We are acting as a donation station for toys and offering free storage to the appeal in the run up to Christmas. The Toy Appeal is celebrating its 21st anniversary and each year they have been helping children from disadvantaged families celebrate Christmas. The local community can donate gifts, which will then be wrapped in our store and given to children as presents. Last year the Toy Appeal successfully gave Christmas gifts to 279 children living in the area of Tunbridge Wells, with many of the presents donated by local residents, shops and stores, as well as local churches, schools and other organisations.

Sponsored Walk For Cash For Kids

Sponsored Walk For Cash For Kids

Staff members from Big Yellow Bramall Lane, Armadillo West Bar and Parkway have all taken part in a sponsored walk to raise money for Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids appeal. The aim of the Cash for Kids appeal is to ensure that every child in South Yorkshire and North Midlands wakes up to a gift on Christmas morning. The team has walked ‘miles for smiles’ and managed to raise £325 for the cause. Another way for people to get involved is to buy new and unwrapped gifts and donate them at selected stores in the area. Every year there are thousands of children across the region that wake up on Christmas morning with no presents to open. To find out how you can help the cause visit Hallam FM’s Cash For Kids website here.

READ International Uganda Update (Part 2)

Throughout the six weeks in Uganda the student volunteers from the University of Edinburgh were faced with many challenges in the library and by the end they had managed to create a fantastic space. The opening ceremony of the library really brought it home to the volunteers what they had achieved. Children had the opportunity to explore the new books that had been donated to READ and kept secure in Big Yellow Self Storage’s rooms across the UK. The day was full of special moments as children of all ages surrounded the team throughout eager to be read to. Children from local primary schools performed during the event standing up reading in front of the others showing their delight at the new facilities. Members of the town council and representatives from the National Library of Uganda set out their ambitions […]

READ International Uganda Update (Part 1)

On the 22nd August READ International completed its latest mission in Uganda with the help of student volunteers from the University of Edinburgh. They were able to successfully distribute over 29,000 textbooks to primary and secondary schools in the Mubende and Masaka districts. At the same time they were also able to aid in the renovation of the Mubende Community Library. When the team from Edinburgh arrived at the library it was a dark and gloomy building with a small number of books gathering dust in a storage cupboard. It was a large space so the team had to really get stuck in if they were to make a difference. The team showed the same enthusiasm that they demonstrated throughout the previous year when the team were collecting textbooks and raising money. For the first time the town had a […]

Armadillo Self Storage Finds The Perfect Storage Solution For RSPCA Peterborough

Armadillo Self Storage Finds The Perfect Storage Solution For RSPCA Peterborough

Our Armadillo store in Peterborough has come to the rescue of a very deserving local RSPCA charity shop as it closes its doors for the last time. There is a new shop opening in the near future, but until then staff need to store their stock. In anticipation of the new shop opening, Armadillo Self Storage has donated free storage space for three months to help out. As a result, the RSCPA shop doesn’t have to spend money on storage and can instead channel those funds straight back into helping animals in the Greater Peterborough area that have sadly been abandoned or neglected. Visit RSPCA Peterborough for further information on volunteering and fundraising opportunities.
