We’re also here to help with space; clear your basement, loft, shed or garage, and leave those belongings with us, and let the inspiration take over… Priority seating The man of the house has their designated seat in front of the TV. Shed-mania

Shed-mania

Sheds have become somewhat of a trend, helped by the ever growing popularity of Shed of the Year; last year won by Joel Bird for his eco-shack. Sheds have gone way past just being extra storage; some have now been transformed into workshops, man caves, cinemas, and even pubs. We love the creative use of space, and here we’ll take you through some of the craziest sheds around. The Plum Tree Arms A creation by Geoff Clarke in East Yorkshire, this shed is designed in the style of a traditional English pub, with everything from beer pumps, to dart boards and a wood burning stove. The family uses it for meals, domino and darts tournaments, New Year’s Eve, and of course, casual drinks with friends. Shedservatory By day, its Ben Filmore’s garden office decorated with colourful rugs, but by night […]

Nesting Niggles: The race for baby space (and a discount for NCT members)

Nesting Niggles: The race for baby space (and a discount for NCT members)

We recently conducted some research that shows babies are dominating the household before they are even born, with baby clutter taking over a third of the family home. Leading up to the arrival of a baby, an average of three rooms in the home are filled by baby items as parents prepare for the big day. With some of the smallest homes in Western Europe*, it appears that British parents are utilising every empty space with one in 10 parents having to resort to storing baby items in the hallway. A quarter of parents underestimated the amount of space needed for a baby and as a result, new parents have thrown away up to £2,000 of their possessions to make space for the additional belongings needed. It seems some new parents aren’t too happy about the clear out, as one […]

The children have gone, but what to do with all their lingering stuff?

Did you know that when leaving the family home for the first time, 17% of children leave a whole rooms worth of belongings or more? This begs the question of what to do with all this stuff when they’re gone, and what about if they come home? We recently conducted a survey looking into the so-called Boomerang Generation, and discovered a whole host of interesting insights into how parents feel about the stuff that children leave when they move out. When a child grows up and flies the nest, parents tend to repurpose the room to make the most out of the space. We found the top uses to be either a guest room or storage space. However, 43% of parents have negative feelings towards their child’s possessions left in the family home. They think it adds clutter, and it […]
