Big Yellow Self Storage Bike Challenge

On the 19th of August at 7am four of our staff members will be taking on an amazing feat for charity. The Big Yellow Fellows (Mike FitzGerald (the team leader), Richard Shubrook, Paul Holmes and Luke McLaughlin) will, along with badminton coach Stephanie Cartwright, be riding 191 miles visting 34 Big Yellow Self Storage stores within the M25. All this is in aid of national charity Get The Kids Going! Get Kids Going! works to enable disabled young people to get involved in all kinds of sports, anything from powerlifting to tennis. They’re currently preparing for the London paralympic games in 2012. Armadillo charity helped in the Great Britain Rugby League All Stars Tournament

John from Armadillo Self Storage in Hull recently attended in a rugby league tournament, which was held in memory of Tim Sage, popular Rugby League player for Hull KR, and amateur teams Beverley and Eureka. Tim tragically died from cancer just before Christmas, leaving a wife who had just had her 12 week scan for her baby, now their beautiful daughter Hannah. The event aimed to raise money for the “Saggy” trust, and Armadillo’s own charity, Life for a Kid. The tournament was held at Hull Rugby Union Club, and four teams participated, which involved all of Tim’s previous clubs and the Great Britain All-Stars, including Great Britain international players such as Paul Newlove, Andy Gregory, Gary Divorty and Anthony Sullivan. Armadillo Self Storage helps to triple space for Caudwell Children’s Charity

Armadillo Self Storage company have made a philanthropic move and donated extra space to meet the needs of local charity, Caudwell Children. Armadillo, based in Victoria Road, Fenton, have tripled Caudwell Children’s storage space, helping the charity further expand its resources. The store manager, Ashley Sitdown, highlights that: “Caudwell Children are a local charity, who help sick and disabled children in our community and all over the UK. This is why Armadillo is so keen to help. Big Yellow Self Storage staff visit English Institute of Sport, Sheffield

Kirsty from Big Yellow Self Storage together with Trina and Kirstie from our Armadillo Stores watched UK medal hopefuls in action during a tour of the English Institute of Sport (EIS) in Sheffield. The impressive lottery funded facility is big enough to cater for a wide variety of sports and features state of the art equipment. As well as being a tremendous asset for elite athletes, the Institute works on projects to bring sport into the community. There were several presentations from the organizers of Team 2012, which gave an insight into the funding operation. The goal is to raise £25 million and £14 million has already been raised. Big Yellow Is Working Together With READ International

Big Yellow Is Working Together With READ International

We’ve been working with READ International, a network of students who volunteer at 45 universities across Britain. We’ve been able to provide storage for thousands of books, getting them ready for shipping to Tanzania and Uganda. The latest shipment was loaded up on 9th May from Norwich and other Big Yellow stores with a staggering 296,965 books which volunteers had been collecting over the past year. These books are now on the way for educational use in deprived schools in East Africa. Armadillo Self Storage Supports Life For A Kid

Our Armadillo Hull store has come to the aid of local charity ‘Life For A Kid’ which was formed earlier this year. Their goal is to make a difference to the lives of young children in the area with critical illnesses and disabilities. The charity founder, Dean Hoggard, is from the area and is working with the Great Britain ALL STARS who are a team of ex-Rugby League internationals. A small charity shop has opened to raise extra money and we’ve been able to donate one of our storage rooms to help the cause. The Great Britain ALL STARS travel the nation playing charity matches in front of thousands of rugby league fans and the whole team in Hull are very proud to be part of a great local charity.

Big Yellow Bird House

A family of blue tits have found a new home at our Big Yellow Colchester store in a wall mounted ashtray. The tiny birds have been chirping away and a sign has been put in place to make sure people don’t use it while they are nesting. We’ve decided not to charge rent, so the blue tits are welcome to stay until they’re ready to leave the nest!
