They’ve done it!
Congratulations to the Big Yellow Fellows! The team including Mike FitzGerald (the team leader), Richard Shubrook, Paul Holmes, Luke McLaughlin and Stephanie Cartwright rode 191 miles visiting 34 Big Yellow Self Storage stores within the M25. The team finally arrived at Big Yellow Romford at 10pm at the end of day two after completing just over 28 hours and 30 minutes of cycling.
The ride was definitely an adventure with Mike FitzGerald saying ‘so after just under 200miles, four punctures, two broken bikes, two crashes, one water damaged phone and one sore bottom due to an unfortunate incident with some stinging nettles…we did it!’ Unfortunately, Richard Shubrook suffered some broken spokes, cycling through Crystal Palace between the Beckenham and West Norwood stores on day one and much to his dismay found himself out of the challenge.
All this is in aid of national charity Get The Kids Going! Get Kids Going! works to enable disabled young people to get involved in all kinds of sports, anything from power lifting to tennis. They’re currently preparing for the London Paralympic games in 2012. The team has raised £1500 so far but if you’d like to get involved in the cause then you can visit their donation page. All contributions, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated. Mike has already agreed to wax his legs by reaching £1,000! Luke will join him at the beauticians after reaching the £1,500 mark. Richard will join them at £2,000 and Paul will make it a team appointment if they reach £3,000!
The Big Yellow Fellows endurance cycle was one of six Olympic events they’ll be recreating this year. This is all part of the Gold Challenge. This initiative challenges the public to take part in Olympic and Paralympic events to raise money for sports charities and promote sports among young people.
Well done again to Mike and his team and we are all looking forward to your next event!
