City is abuzz after rare orchid is found!

Three years ago Big Yellow store manager Rob Harley was surprised to find Bee Orchids growing in the shadows of our Norwich store. They were first noticed by former RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) officer, Chris Durdin, who persuaded the gardeners to let the flowers grow, explaining that the Bee Orchid is in decline. This is the case, not only in Norfolk, but right across England. In the case of the bee orchid, the single flower is the culmination of up to 8 years growth and, if picked, the plant is unlikely to flower again. Last week, after two years of no reported sightings, the same Bee Orchid was spotted again. Big Yellow help create storage for Farleigh Hospice

Big Yellow’s Store Managers Rob Harley, Matt Trevillion, Gary Boast, Andy Polson and Mike FitzGerald have spent the day at Farleigh Hospice this week, helping the maintenance team prepare for some new and much needed storage space. Arriving in the morning the volunteers split into two teams to make the most out of the day, with one team painting fence posts while the other prepared the ground for a new shed base they were building in the afternoon. After a quick break they carried on the hard work by putting a frame in place for the shed and filling it with concrete, ready for further volunteers to build on in the next few weeks. Big Yellow Twickenham supports Charity Dallaglio & Flintoff Cycle Ride

Big Yellow in Twickenham have played a big part for the Dallaglio Flintoff Cycle Slam supported by Virgin Media by providing a free storage room for the storage of bicycles, kit and equipment before, during and after the ride. Laurence Dallaglio and Freddie Flintoff had set the challenge to cycle from Olympia in Greece all the way to the Olympic Village, London in just 22 days starting on the 23rd April and riding a staggering 2,872km. The event was raising money for the “Dallaglio Foundation” which helps support Cancer Research UK funded ICGC project on Prostate Cancer genetics and the other charity is the “AF Foundation” which raises funds to build, develop and improve Child Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy units in the UK Warwick Sleigh store manager of the Big Yellow in Wandsworth was invited to take part on the final […]

Stockton Armadillo do their bit for Teesside hospice charity

Stockton Armadillo do their bit for Teesside hospice charity

Stockton Armadillo have helped out local hospice charity Butterwick this week by donating a 75sq ft room and a donation station nearby where Armadillo customers can donate clothes and bric-a-brac to be sold to help finance their work. Scott McDonald (pictured right) from Armadillo Stockton said: “We were delighted to help out such a worthwhile local charity and look forward to working with them in the future on local fundraising events” Brunswick hospice treat around 200 patients. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for those who have a life limiting illness and their families and to help them relate positively to every challenge they may encounter during their illness and to see death as part of life’s journey.
