Top tips for summer wine
The sun’s out and you’ve made it through another week at work. There’s only one thing for it: friends, food and a good time. But before you send the invite or prep the food, quench your thirst with our tips for summer drinking.
1) Add sparkle to your chicken
Did you know that sparkling wine has the same palate-cleansing effect as the more traditional choice of BBQ beverage, beer? Not only that, it goes perfectly with chicken.
2) Opposites attract
Pair strong BBQ flavours with a sweet rosé to create a balance of flavours. Impress your friends by telling them the wine has been specially selected to neutralise the palette and they’ll go home impressed. We guarantee they’ll use the same line next time they host.
3) Light food, light wine
Low alcohol wine is becoming a popular choice with more and more retailers now offering a low alcohol option. Give them a go with bright citrusy flavours and/or vegetables this summer – very refreshing.
4) Stay cool
On a hot day, there’s nothing better than a cold drink. The secret is to add a pinch of salt to your ice bucket so the ice stays cooler for longer. Adding salt causes a temperature drop that slows the melting rate and increases the freezing rate.
5) Chill out
Chilled white wine is commonplace, however, most people wouldn’t have considered chilling a red. Our advice is to go for it, not only will it be more enjoyable to consume but the taste will be more refreshing on a hot day. We recommend a chilled Beaujolais, Pinot Noir or Zinfandel
