Full Set Productions

Despite sharing a passion for keeping things under lock and key, the respective teams at Full Set Productions and Big Yellow have distinctly different approaches to the application of security devices.

For the former – a trio specialising in the conception, design and installation of escape rooms – codes and chains are challenges created with the intention of being cracked, while for the latter they are employed to deter and deny any unauthorised access.

“In many ways Big Yellow is the reverse of an escape room,” joked James Dawe, who co-founded Full Set Productions earlier this year with fellow escapologist entrepreneurs Perim Isisag and James McIntosh. “When you visit the store, you have to put in a code to get in rather than in an attempt to get out, which isn’t the way we usually work!”

The juxtaposition in the utility of locks has not, however, posed any barriers to a seemingly unlikely union between the organisations.

In need of storage to temporarily house an extraordinary array of props, Full Set Productions selected Big Yellow as their chosen provider and the fledgling company’s owners insist they are not racing to find an exit.

“Since swapping James’ mum’s garage for a unit, Big Yellow has become integral to our business,” explained Perim, whose interest in creating escape rooms was piqued during a tenure managing one.

"We use the space to keep some of the bigger items we design, and it gives us extra room in our workshop to build."

“Most of the other customers we see going in and out of Big Yellow are carrying things like tables and chairs, whereas we’ll be seen moving a big spell board or massive clock face, or rolling in a Roman chicken coop.”

The quirky nature of some of Full Set Productions’ themed props does not mean that Big Yellow’s secure premises are not appreciated, according to James McIntosh.

“Some of the items we need to store may not appear that desirable but for the businesses we are building them for, they are incredibly valuable as they help to attract customers – and revenue – to their escape rooms,” he said. “The industry is growing bigger and bigger and with it our reputation as a company.

“We stand out from the crowd because we can be relied on to deliver and do everything from conception to installation; tailoring our services to meet customers’ needs.”

And business is certainly brisk for the former freelancers as they carve out a stronghold in a thriving market that is estimated to be valued at £24 billion by 2032. The Full Set Productions team has already added collaborations with entertainment series such as Peaky Blinders, Dr Who and Horrible Histories to its resume and was recently commissioned to create a series of games for a global cyber security firm.

Fortunately for the fast-expanding enterprise, business storage is not a puzzle it needs to solve.
