The Versatility of Storage Units

Our self storage units provide purpose built, secure storage spaces to keep your valuable possessions safe.

We also use state of the art technology to maximise security, and all our facilities are in handy, main road locations, making life (and storage) much simpler.

Flexible Storage for Personal or Business Use

Looking for a flexible solution when it comes to home storage? Self storage units are great for short term needs as well as longer term solutions. During DIY projects, for instance, storing furnishings, books or ornaments creates a clear work space and protects items from damage. Alternatively, you can make the best of your available space when you’re trying to sell a house or when you’re moving, by getting started early on the packing, and making your home appear more spacious to buyers in the process.

Using storage units for business has its advantages, as you don’t have to pay business rates or utilities. Another benefit is the flexible terms – you can move to a smaller or larger storage unit on short notice. If you have bulky or heavy items, our stores have forklifts and free use of trolleys and pallet trucks to help you move your stock too.

Whatever you’re putting into storage, it helps if you create a list or inventory of stored items, and use this to make a floor plan of how things will fit in your storage unit. If you can, try to incorporate a walkway through the middle of the storage room so it’s easier to retrieve single items later. You can also use freestanding shelves for clearer organisation.

Whether you need storage space for business or personal possessions, the first step is deciding what you’ll store and how much space you’ll need. From there, we make things as flexible and simple as possible.

A Range of Storage Unit Sizes

Storage units are available in a range of sizes, from large lockers to warehouse-sized areas, and we make it easy to change sizes if your storage needs evolve over time.

You can remove much of the guesswork in estimating the storage room size you’ll need by drawing up a list of items you’ll put into storage, then grouping them in the way you’ll arrange them in store. Take measurements of freestanding items such as furnishings so you know how much space they’ll take up, and decide how many boxes (and what size) you’ll need for smaller things. Boxes are easier to stack when they’re the same size. Our storage rooms are not subject to sudden temperature changes (such as can happen in a garage or drafty warehouse), but it’s still wise to leave a little space between items and the wall to allow air to circulate more freely.

A visit to one of our storage facilities, so you can see actual storage units first hand, will also help you gauge how much space you need.

Professional, Unrivalled Security

Big Yellow has the highest security level of any other UK provider in the self storage industry. In fact, we are the only major self storage provider in the UK to provide individual alarms on every storage unit, with PIN code access to each storage room.

In addition, 24 hour CCTV monitors activity around the site, with a feed going directly to a security monitoring centre during unmanned hours. Some of our storage facilities have security guards on patrol after office hours, and staff are trained to spot and respond to suspicious activity.

We not only comply with, we exceed all regulations to make sure your belongings stay really safe while they’re in our storage units.

So, whether you need storage for business or personal belongings, flexible and secure storage units give you additional space whenever you need it.
