Big Yellow Self Storage supports Surrey Scouts attend World Scout Jamboree

Passionate about supporting local communities and groups, Big Yellow is proud to lend its efforts to supporting the local Scout Jamboree Unit, the Surrey Stingrays. Big Yellow has donated £3,000 to help purchase needed equipment for the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA on the 22nd July – 2nd August 2019.

The World Scout Jamboree is a scouting event that sees 55,000 young people and adult volunteers from 150 countries, come together for a programme of activities centred around global development, cultural experience, adventures, fun and friendship.

This year’s jamboree is taking place at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia, USA where a selected team of 120 scouts and adult leaders will represent Surrey, joining 4,500 other participants from the rest of the UK.

Thanks to the generous donation of Big Yellow Self Storage, the Scout Jamboree Unit are well on their way to reaching their fundraising target. Big Yellow has been able to help contribute to the costs of purchasing valuable equipment, such as branded clothing, gear and catering equipment, allowing both the Surrey Stingrays and also children from developing countries to attend the event.

David Moore, Unit Leader of Surrey Stingrays scout group, commented: “The team has been working incredibly hard to fundraise over the past 12 months to attend the jamboree and raise money to help those from developing countries attend too. Without the added help from Big Yellow, the team wouldn’t have been able to buy the necessary equipment to take part in activities – an instrumental part of the team’s overall experience.

“We’re ever so grateful that the Surrey Scouts will be able to represent the local area. The whole team is excited to take part in what will be a fantastic experience for these young individuals as they experience other cultures and learn how to deal with new situations as young adults.”

We are delighted to see our donation being put to such good use, and are excited to see what adventures await the Surrey Stingrays on their trip to the Jamboree in July.
