Powered by Solar Panels

Big Yellow Self Storage continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability across the UK, with solar panels now installed at 85 of our 113 stores. By generating renewable electricity directly from our rooftops, we are helping reduce energy consumption across the business while investing in a more sustainable future for our customers, communities and teams. As a business operating nationwide, we recognise the importance of making long-term environmental investments that support responsible growth and operational efficiency.

Our commitment to innovation can also be seen through the opening of our net zero carbon store in Slough in July 2024. The store includes installed battery technology designed to store solar energy generated on site, helping power the building more efficiently throughout the day.  Our continued investment in renewable energy reflects our wider commitment to reducing carbon emissions across the business while maintaining the high standards of service, security and accessibility our customers expect. With teams on site and stores open 7 days a week, we continue to focus on practical solutions that support both operational efficiency and environmental responsibility.

Corporate social responsibility at Big Yellow also extends beyond sustainability. Through The Big Yellow Foundation, we support vulnerable adults into sustainable employment through charity partnerships, volunteering and work placements across the country. Combined with our environmental initiatives, this reflects our long-term commitment to creating positive impact for customers, communities and future generations.
